Saluting our Sisters

What a great get-together, lunch and exhibition last month with Living Solo Initiative Migrant Voice and ourselves to celebrate Bla,ck History Month 2023. The theme for 2023 was ‘Celebrating Our Sisters’. Rose and Nyax from Living Solo Initiative gave a really insightful talk to accompany the exhibition highlighting the crucial role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities.

In particular “Sheroes Among Us,” highlighted contemporary black women who are breaking barriers and shattering stereotypes in their respective fields; and “Pioneering Voices,” featured black women who have used their voices to speak out against injustice.

All of this along with a culturally themed lunch - which was absolutely delicious! (sorry no photos!)

What a great success! Thank you to everyone involved.

Next week’s Thursday lunchtime event will also be a special one as it coincides with St Andrews Day! November 30th. A celebration of the day that St Andrew officially became patron Saint of Scotland.

Thursday November 30th at 12.30pm in the upstairs hall at the Multicultural Centre. As always, all welcome.
